Dr. Marks obtained his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry. After completing a dental internship with the U.S. Public Health Service, he served an additional two years with the Public Health Service, providing dental care on an Indian Reservation in Nevada before his advanced training.
Dr. Marks received a National Institutes of Health teaching and research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Periodontics, and obtained a specialty certificate in Periodontics in 1965. During this residency he received additional training in adult orthodontics as it relates to periodontal disease. Since that time he has been in full time practice of Periodontics and taught part time at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine as a clinical Professor for thirty-five years and at NYU as a guest lecturer.
Dr. Marks was the lead author of the book ATLAS OF ADULT ORTHODONTICS, FUNCTIONAL AND ESTHETIC ENHANCEMENT which has been translated into Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. He has contributed to ten other textbooks and monographs and has co-authored twenty articles in dental journals. Dr. Marks has given over 200 continuing education courses in the USA, Panama, South America, Japan and Europe.
Dr. Marks has been very active in both local and national organized dentistry. He has served on many committees and was president of the Philadelphia Society of Periodontology, Pennsylvania Society of Periodontists, Montgomery-Bucks Dental Society, and the Delaware Valley Academy of Osseointegration (dental implants). He served six years on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Periodontology.
Dr. Marks became interested in dentistry as a boy scout due to the mentoring of his scoutmaster who was a dentist. Subsequently he became an Eagle Scout. In his community, he has worked actively with a local Boy Scout troop as a scout leader and troop committee member. He has organized a 50 mile canoe trip on the Delaware River for the past 31 years for the scouts and dads.
